Appellant Gary Van DeVeer filed suit against appellee RTJ, Inc., d/b/a George’s Flowers (“RTJ”), for injuries he sustained when he fell down a flight of stairs while working on RTJ’s greenhouse. Van DeVeer alleged in his complaint that his injuries were proximately caused by the negligence of RTJ in failing to warn of a dangerous condition, to maintain the premises in a safe and prudent manner, to have a handrail on the stairway, and to construct the stairs in compliance with local and state codes.
