Gregory, Chief Justice:

This appeal is from a family court order awarding respondent (Mother) custody of the parties’ two minor children, support, attorney and guardian ad litem fees, and costs. We reverse and remand.

The parties were married in 1981 and have two daughters aged six and three years old. Appellant (Father) is in the United States Navy and has been stationed overseas for the *262past several years.
