In 1838, Hewitt, Ruffner & Co. and L. G. Sturdevant and John Wilson, agreed to build, and did build and fit out the steamboat Hugh L. White, near the City of Louisville, tobe employed on the western waters, in carrying freight and passengers for profit; Hewitt, Ruffner & Co. *454to be interested one half, Sturdevant one third, and Wilson one sixth. The boat was completed and fitted out, and commenced business about the 1st of January, 1839, under the command and management of Wilson as Captain and master and Sturdevant as clerk.
