This medical malpractice suit was brought by the appellees, the surviving husband and minor children of Shirley L. Jones, whose death is alleged to have been caused by the negligence of the appellant, a physician. In December, 1981, the suit had been pending for 16 months, all discovery had been completed, and the case was set for a four-day trial in February.
