Plaintiff-appellant Teri Holbrook was involved in an automobile accident with Herman and Donna Carpenter on December 6, 1998. The Carpenters sued Holbrook in Kentucky state court for damages arising from the accident; in response, Holbrook claimed coverage under a three-month auto insurance policy that she purchased from defendant-appellee Shelter Insurance Company (“Shelter”) on September 8, 1998.
