Appeal from a judgment of the County Court of Broome County (Smith, J.), rendered October 16, 1998, convicting defendant upon his plea of guilty of the crime of burglary in the first degree.

At approximately 5:00 a.m. on September 7, 1997, defendant, his two codefendants and several of their fraternity brothers broke into a student residence in the City of Binghamton, Broome County, looking for an individual with whom they had apparently traded insults the previous night.
