The Workers’ Compensation Act provides that when an employee is injured on the job and his capacity to work is reduced, he is protected from the economic vicissitudes of the market place until the employee can perform at his pre-injury capacity. Metro Mach. Corp. v. Lamb, 33 Va.App. 187, 197, 532 S.E.2d 337, 341 (2000). At least, that was the law until today.
