RENDLEN, Judge.
This appeal turns on whether the so-called “rear-end collision doctrine” was available as a theory for the defense and if so whether defendants’ verdict-directing instruction, MAI 17.16 modified, properly submitted the “doctrine.” 1
Plaintiffs Mueller, husband and wife, sought damages from defendants Franklin Storbakken and the Land Construction Co. for injuries sustained when the front of the Mueller automobile struck the rear of the Land Construction Co. vehicle operated by defendant Storbakken.
