On the first day of October, 1870, Andrew Bauch mortgaged the north-east quarter of section 5, township 12, north of range 6, west, in Macoupin county, to O. B. Heaton, to secure the payment of a certain sum of money, which mortgage was duly recorded. On the 21st day of February, 1877, Bauch borrowed from Prentiss D. Cheney, $4772, and gave two notes for the principal debt, and also two sets of interest notes for the payment of annual installments of interest.
