The appellant, Michael Bernard Ayers, was convicted of escape in the first degree, a violation of § 13A-10-31, Code of Alabama 1975; rape in the first degree, a violation of §13A-6-61(a)(1), Code of Alabama 1975; and two counts of sodomy in the first degree, in violation of § 13A-6-63(a)(1), Code of Alabama 1975. He was sentenced to a term of 10 years in the penitentiary for the escape conviction and 25 years' incarceration each for the rape and sodomy convictions.
