OPINION

The defendant, Richard Morris, was convicted of first degree murder and other offenses and sentenced to death. While his case was pending before this court on direct appeal, then-Governor George H. Ryan issued a clemency order which stated that defendant’s death sentence was commuted to natural life imprisonment without the possibility of parole or mandatory supervised release.
