Plaintiffs in error were convicted of the murder of Joseph Meenan. The first point we shall consider relates to the admissibility of statements made by the defendants at the coroner’s inquest. They were subpoenaed as witnesses to appear before the coroner’s jury, then engaged in investigating the cause of the death of deceased and ascertaining the guilty parties, and were duly sworn and testified before that body.
