Bala Subrahmanyan Krowidi’s appeals his sentence and conviction for vehicular homicide. Following a bench trial, the trial court found that Krowidi had run a red light causing the accident which resulted in the death of Daniel Hawthorne. The trial court concluded that the running of the red light, with no indication of other recklessness or impairment, satisfied the necessary element of a “material deviation” from the standard of care required for a conviction of vehicular homicide under K.S.A. 21- 3405.
