On the 4th day of November, 1872, appellant received from Elizabeth Valentine a mortgage on certain real estate in North Evauston, in Cook county, to secure the purchase money for the property, and for which she had given her six notes, for different amounts, and payable on various dates, and amounting in the aggregate to $8500, and bearing ten per cent interest per annum. The mortgage was duly recorded on the 26th of February, 1873.
