On November 15, 1898, an election was held in the county of Gallatin to determine whether the county seat should be removed from the city of Shawneetown to the village of Ridgway, and resulted in a majority of two hundred and twenty-one votes against such removal. The village of Ridgway and certain residents of the county, who were electors and tax-payers therein, filed the bill in this case praying that the election might be declared illegal and void.
