In the Spring of 1996, appellant was tried by a general court-martial consisting of offi*490cer and enlisted members at Fort Drum, New York. Contrary to his pleas, he was found guilty of assault with a dangerous weapon in violation of Article 128, Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 USC § 928. On May 8,1996, he was sentenced to a dishonorable discharge, confinement for 6 months, total forfeiture, and reduction to Private E-l.
