¶ 1. This case originated in the Circuit Court of Jackson County where Marlon Knox was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.

¶ 2. Knox and his roommate, Jermaine Williams, traveled to the “504 Club” where Williams became involved in an altercation with a man named Charles Witherspoon concerning a defective stereo Witherspoon had recently sold to Williams.
