Appeal from that part of an order of the Supreme Court (Ellison, J.), entered September 29, 1998 in Chemung County, which denied a motion by certain defendants for partial summary judgment and for bifurcation of the trial.

In June 1995, defendant Jason A. Terry was driving a car in which Nichole L. Barron (hereinafter decedent) and several other teenage friends were passengers. Suddenly, one of the passengers seated next to Terry grabbed the steering wheel and jerked it to the right.
