Tragically, Nicole Gilmore, an 11-year-old girl suffering from osteogenic sarcoma (bone cancer) was infected by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV or AIDS virus) from one *955or more of the 22 units of blood she received between March 6 and October 17, 1983 during surgical and chemotherapy treatment at Memorial Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases sued herein as Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (Hospital).
