When a banking corporation becomes insolvent, or has violated its charter, the court of chancery, on the application of the attorney general, or a creditor, may appoint a receiver of the property and effects of the corporation. (2 R. S. 463, §§ 39, 41.) The same thing might be done in relation to safety fund banks, on the application of *82the bank commissioners, so long as we had such officers. (Stat. 1829, p. 170, §. 18.) And the bank commissioners had the like powers in relation to corporations formed under the general banking law. (Stat. 1840, p. 307, §§ 11, 12.)…
