KNOLL, Judge.

The State of Louisiana, through the Department of Transportation and Development (hereafter DOTD) appeals the trial court’s damage award of $519,661.50 to Loretta Forest and her four minor children for the death of James Forest. Loretta Forest, individually and as the tutrix of her four minor children, sued: Joseph Vils, the driver of the GMC pickup truck which struck James Forest; Vils’s insurer, Travelers Insurance Company; DOTD; and various State contractors and their subcontractors.
