Two appeals are before the court. One is from a judgment in favor of plaintiff in an action for wrongful death resulting from a two-car collision; and the second is from an order of the court setting aside so much of the verdict as represents compensation for conscious pain and suffering unless defendants will stipulate for a larger named sum. Neither defendant was willing to so stipulate.

The accident occurred on the Saw Mill River Parkway, somewhere between a mile and a mile and a half south of Hawthorne Circle. The highway consists of four lanes, two northbound and two southbound. To avoid…
