Following a bench trial, defendant Hector Marquez was convicted of criminal drug conspiracy and sentenced to a 15-year prison term. The judgment was affirmed on direct appeal. People v. Marquez, No. 1 — 97—4013 (1999) (unpublished order under Supreme Court Rule 23). Defendant subsequently filed a pro se petition for postconviction relief, which the trial court summarily dismissed as frivolous and patently without merit.
