State v. Sorrell

Supreme Court of Vermont

Decided September 22, 1989No. 88-225PublishedCited by 4 opinions

1Opinion of the CourtMorse, J.

Defendant Richard Sorrell was convicted, following a jury trial, of simple assault on a child and aggravated assault on the child’s mother. On appeal, he claims that he was denied a speedy trial, that the trial court erred in finding the child competent to testify, that his rights under the Double Jeopardy Clause were violated when the State was permitted to reopen its case-in-chief, and that the court erred by denying his motion for judgment of acquittal on the aggravated assault charge. We affirm.
