This is a collision case. Three vessels are involved, the barge Bright, the tug Samson and the steamship Hawaiian.
The Hawaiian collided with the Bright while the latter was at anchor about a half mile south of Sharp’s Island buoy in the Chesapeake Bay, in the early morning of August 31, 1940. The Bright, a seagoing wooden barge 258 feet long, 46 feet beam, draft 26 feet, fully loaded with sand and gravel, had been placed on her anchorage by the tug Samson on the night of August 28th.
