SCOTT, Justice.

Defendant was charged in district court with kidnapping and a variety of sex offenses in connection with the abduction and rape of two women, one on December 4, 1980, the other on February 9, 1981. In connection with the first incident defendant was charged with criminal sexual conduct in the first, second and third degrees and kidnapping, and in connection with the second incident he was charged with two counts each of criminal sexual conduct in the first and second degrees and one count of kidnapping.
