This is a special proceeding instituted by a warrant of attachment issued under section 762 of the Judiciary Law (Consol. Laws, c. 30), to punish the accused, Harry A. Hanbury, as for a contempt of court by reason of his refusal to obey oral directions given directly to him as a witness in supplementary proceedings by Mr. Justice Manning, the judge before whom the proceedings were then pending. Upon the return of the warrant at the Special Term for Contested Motions Mr. Justice Maddox, the justice then presiding, caused interrogatories to be filed, and the accused made written answers…
