This action was instituted by the Attorney General on behalf of the United States on September 21, 1967, under Title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 42 U.S.C. § 2000a et seq. (the Act), to desegregate a bathing beach on the Chesapeake Bay in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, known as Beverley Beach Club, and a beach cottage or apartment house (the cottage) in the same area.
