After a jury trial, defendant, James Bland, was convicted of attempted murder (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 38, pars. 8 — 4, 9 — 1), two counts of aggravated battery (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 38, par. 12 — 4), aggravated kidnapping (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 38, par. 10 — 2(a)(3)), and aggravated unlawful restraint (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 38, par. 10 — 3.1). Defendant was sentenced to extended terms of 40 years’ imprisonment for the attempted murder, 30 years’ imprisonment for the aggravated kidnapping, and 10 years’ imprisonment for the aggravated battery.
