ZACHARY, Judge.

*650 Defendant Sydney Shakur Mercer was indicted for possession of a firearm by a felon and for two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill. A jury found defendant not guilty on both charges of assault, but guilty of possession of a firearm by a felon. Defendant appeals from judgment entered upon his conviction. On appeal, defendant argues that the trial court erred in denying his request for a jury instruction on justification as a defense to the charge of possession of a firearm by a felon.
