On October 17, 1977, the defendant was convicted by a jury on an indictment for armed robbery (No. 77-1570) which had been returned against him in the Superior Court in Middlesex County. On October 28, 1977, he was placed on straight probation (G. L. c. 276, § 87) for a period of four years.
