Vernon H. Hoerath, the owner, instituted this action against Sloan’s Moving & Storage Company, a corporation, engaged in business as a public warehouseman under Chapter 406 (statutory references are to RSMo 1949 and V.A.M.S.), on a contract of bailment for the reasonable value of household goods stored in defendant’s public warehouse at 1167 Hodiamont Avenue, St. Louis, Missouri, which was destroyed by fire on the night of January IS, 1951.
