On December 5, 1977, the defendant was charged by information with two counts of aggravated battery in violation of section 12 — 4(a) of the Criminal Code of 1961 (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1977, ch. 38, par. 12 — 4(a)), two counts tif aggravated battery in violation of section 12 — 4(b)(8) of the Code (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1977, ch. 38, par. 12 — 4(b)(8)), and two counts of battery in violation of section 12 — 3 of the Code (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1977, ch. 38, par. 12 — 3).
