On November 5, 1946, an election was held for the office of sheriff of Bond County. The result of the canvass of the votes was that David Blankenship, a nominee of the' Republican party, received 3164 votes, and the plaintiff, Robert W. Joyce, the nominee of the Democratic party, received 3147 votes, this giving Blankenship a margin of 17 votes. He received a certificate of election, qualified, and assumed the duties of his office.
