REEVES, Chief Judge.

The defendant in the first instance challenges the sufficiency of the service in this case and seeks dismissal upon the ground that at the time the summons purportedly was served upon defendant he was a nonresident of the State of Missouri. An examination of the pleadings, including the return of the sheriff, discloses the following return marked as Exhibit “C” to the summons:

“Return On Service Of Summons
“I hereby certify that I have served the within summons * * *
“(2) By leaving on the 15th day of June, 1950 for the within-named defendant
