Defendant, Donasty Anwanique Cohen, was charged by indictment filed on February 22, 2017, with second degree murder, a violation of La.R.S. 14:30.1. Trial by jury commenced on November 7, 2017. Defendant was subsequently found guilty of the responsive verdict of manslaughter, a violation of La.R.S. 14:31. On January 23, 2018, Defendant was sentenced to serve seventeen years at hard labor, without *16benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.
