INTRODUCTION
Plaintiffs brought this action individually and on behalf of a putative class of direct purchasers of copper water tubing from defendant Phelps Dodge Industries, Inc. (“Phelps Dodge”), during the period January 1, 1975 to November 30,1982, for relief from defendants’ alleged price-fixing in violation of Section 1 of the Sherman Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1.
