OPINION

BUCKINGHAM, Senior Judge:

Matthew York appeals from an order of the Cumberland Circuit Court granting summary judgment in favor of Petzl America, Inc., in a personal injury action. For the following reasons, we reverse and remand.

York, the assistant chief of the Marrow-bone Volunteer Fire Department in Cumberland County, was 24 years old at the time of the accident. While attending a class for volunteer firefighters at the Burkesville Volunteer Fire Department on April 12, 2004, York fell 15-20 feet onto a concrete surface while performing a rappelling exercise.
