A Jefferson County grand jury indicted Melvin Nicholson on one count of possessing a pistol after having been convicted of a crime of violence, a violation of § 13A-ll-72(a), Ala.Code 1975, and one count of third-degree domestic violence, a violation of § 13A-6-132, Ala.Code 1975. Nicholson was tried before a jury; the jury found Nicholson guilty of the pistol-possession charge and not guilty of the domestic-violence charge.
