In January or February of 1988, Pittard Machinery Company (“Pittard”), a distributor of lathes, attempted to sell to Unique Designs, Inc. (“Unique”) a “Mori Seiki” lathe; however, Unique instead purchased a less expensive “Mazak” lathe from one of Pittard’s competitors. In June of 1988, Unique contacted Pittard and requested Pittard’s assistance in disposing of the Mazak lathe because it had turned out to be incompatible with Unique’s business.
