This multiparty maritime suit arose out of an accident which killed an employee of an independent contractor while he was engaged in specialized testing of an oil well drill aboard a submersible drilling barge. In the aftermath the decedent’s widow and minor children (heirs) sued the barge owner; the barge owner sued the decedent’s employer; and the decedent’s compensation insurer intervened for benefits paid.
