In September 1995, Darren R Haynes was convicted of voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. On October 10, 1995, he received a twenty-year sentence on the former two charges and five consecutive years on the firearm charge, with fifteen to serve. No motion for new trial or timely notice of appeal was filed. In his pro se appeal, Haynes challenges the trial court’s failure to hold a hearing on his motion for out-of-time appeal.
