After trial by jury, the defendant, Michael A. Rancourt, was convicted of aggravated rape, G. L. c. 265, § 22(a) (1984 ed.); kidnapping, G. L. c. 265, § 26 (1984 ed.); and assault by means of a dangerous weapon, G. L. c. 265, § 15B (1984 ed.).
